What I liked
The way “I’m fine” is written allows us to just sit and listen to a perspective rather than being shown. It’s like having a conversation with someone you didn’t intend to, and you walk away having learned so much. Nothing crazy happened, but you are changed nonetheless.
What I didn't like
I am curious to hear more “dialogue” or reaction from Paige to the people she was talking to, where maybe someone says something offensive. The show sometimes feels that it stays on the same note, and I think it could be interesting to see some different levels. This could be in the writing or delivery. Just something I would play with, but it may not be what Paige is going for, since the title is “I’m fine” and part of what I like is the feeling of just having a conversation.
My overall impression
“I’m fine” is an incredibly touching, heartbreaking, piece of theater. I have had my fair share of anxiety and bouts of depression, but I was reminded in listening to Paige’s words how I don’t know what it’s like to live with a diagnosed mental illness. Paige paints a picture that describes a world that I’m sure many can relate to, and many others had no idea. A true peek into the mind of someone who is trying to take it one day at a time.
