What I liked

Italome’s writing and acting are top notch! The minimal set design and wardrobe brought just the right amount of grounding in the scene that accentuated the story even more in its minimalism. The lighting and sound design made the show even more immersive.

My overall impression

Italome effortlessly weaves humor and tragedy into her story, which hits so deeply from so many angles. The way she captures the multigenerational impact of grief and the fear of submitting to unknown forces despite her best attempts to be self aware and grounded in reality makes this show even more touching. Mermaid is a thought-provoking piece that balances the light with the dark to talk about the aftermath of loss.
