What I liked
I adored that the woman who ‘wins’ the right to be the bride in this story is not a nubile young nymph, but is an older woman who wins that right because of the words she wrote to woo her husband to be.
What I didn't like
There was some confusion for me. Even though this story gave a huge nod toward freedom for women’s sexuality and the inclusion of older women in that freedom, I got mixed messages when the chorus was a group of sexualized younger women in beautiful revealing dresses and the one line zingers were comments on the older woman’s child bearing hips. That aside, the premiss of the story is intriguing.
My overall impression
Horny! The Musical has some ideas that are real jewels: pulling ancient Greek Mythological creatures and deities into our modern world, liberating women’s sexuality, and setting it all to music.
