When famed London Hospital Doctor Frederick Treves finds The Elephant Man being exhibited in an 1884 freak show, he purchases him for study for a day. This chance meeting begins a profound and enlightening relationship between the man he learns is Joseph Merrick. Suffering through Proteus Syndrome, Merrick has been seen as a deformed monster his whole life, but as he is taught about society by his newfound “friends” it is they who are truly transformed.
