The acting was very grounded – both Lindsay Beamish and Vanessa Peters give wonderfully nuanced and connected performances – they are clearly pros. I loved the movement aspects of the show, as well — I almost wanted there to be more of the synchronized/abstract movements in the later parts of the play, too (I love that kind of stuff). The pink/red lighting gave the whole thing an alternative reality feel that I loved falling into. And the bits with the microphone, where one actress is facing away from the audience and playing the Institute employee over the loudspeaker was wonderfully theatrical and created such a cool acoustic (aural?) feel. The whole thing made me think of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind/Charlie Kaufman worlds, which I LOVE.
I also REALLY appreciated that this was a play about two women and that they were strong (even opened a business!) and also vulnerable and nuanced and just multi-dimensional. Thank you.
What I didn't like
I got a bit lost, plot/arc-wise and energy-wise in the last quarter of the play. It didn’t feel like the two women ended at a different point than they started — but maybe that wasn’t the point.
My overall impression
STANDOUT!! I loved this show. It was eerie, moving and thought-provoking.
