What I liked

I liked how, while inspired by serious subject matter, this show did not take itself too seriously. (I mean, if it did, it would be incredibly depressing and disturbing.) The world is filled with difficult and horrible things, and sometimes the best way to work through that is to laugh. I also really liked how they worked in the space— no big set pieces, just actors creating their reality together, moving tables and chairs into different configurations and going with the flow. Great ensemble work in creating the different, cartoony worlds from high school to prison. And I really love saying “bang” instead of actually having a sound cue for shooting guns: it sort of highlights the kind of cops-n-robbers mentality of those who recommend armed teachers in the first place.

What I didn't like

I saw an early run so some of the timing was still getting tightened, but I feel like the show has by now gotten fully into its stride.

My overall impression

A fast-paced, hilarious hour of big, over-the-top comedy that satirizes the completely insane idea that “well-trained teachers” holding handguns is a reasonable way to deal with school shootings in America. Excellent cast with great timing, and great use of theatrics to soften what could otherwise have become a somewhat disturbing theme.
