Without a doubt, my favorite thing about this show is a stand out performance by Demetris Hartman. He is earnest, powerful, full of heart and has one heck of a voice. He had me at hello and carries the show well. Although there are other characters including his mother and partner in song and sorrow, Hartman is what held me through the whole show and doesn’t miss a single opportunity to make you feel something.
What I didn't like
The rest of the cast is ept and I trust as the run goes on they will rise up to meet him, the clever direction and extremely tight and funny writing we expect from Tony Foster.
My overall impression
I was drawn to this show knowing it was written by Tony Foster and he did not disappoint. This clever tale that seems to be a continuation of the little weekly romp that won the Sacred Fools Serial Killers competition was a bundle of laughs. The precise direction from Marisa O’Brien reminded me why I love theater. So many moments are handled with care and the mash up of Foster and O’Brien is a party filled with laughter and Broadway show tune heaven.
