The original songs were well-written, and the singing and live accompaniment were great. This show is a musical with a full cast that is more suited to a much larger stage, but the cast and crew made it work in the small space they had. Among the actors, Scooby Ducati as Jake was a stand-out, bringing moments of joy into an otherwise serious situation.
What I didn't like
There were a couple of places in the story that could have been fleshed out a bit more. For example, one character has a change of heart, but it’s not clear how they arrived at that change. This play could easily be expanded from one hour to a full, two-hour show.
My overall impression
A very moving play that brings to light the plight of trans people in America — even in a progressive city like L.A. — through music and drama. It was as informative as it was entertaining.
