What I liked

Beautiful staging. I really enjoyed the use of the multi-level space. Even though there were almost no set pieces and very few props, peering into the action in an opulent house felt real. I related to the main character’s struggles with “making it” in Los Angeles. Jola Cora looks beautiful and perfectly captures the fine line of the character who may be a movie star or may be a figment of their imagination or may be an insane intruder. Annalee Scott was completely believable as someone who came to LA with all the hopes and dreams and is now basically crushed and desperate.

What I didn't like

At the very beginning of the play, the main character Marina is sort of staring off into the distance (after the dreamy sequence dancing with Anna’s dress, which I did like) and it felt a bit forced or perhaps confusing. I’d prefer to see some forward movement from the character at that point as opposed to her just being depressed generally about her situation. I’d also like a bit more insight into why the boyfriend gets so violent with Anna and what really went wrong with the couple’s relationship. Lastly, I would have liked a bit more insight into why Anna’s character says the things she says about our oneness and her aphorisms about life. (Normally I wouldn’t write much about what I’d improve because I did LOVE the play, but you asked!)

My overall impression

Beautiful staging. Jola Cora looks beautiful and perfectly captures the fine line of the character, Annalee Scott was completely believable. I haven’t stopped thinking about the images I saw and the issues the play explored!
