What I liked
It’s a comedy that looks light heartedly at certain hot-topic subjects yet doesn’t necessarily try to solve anything as a way to allow the audience to dialogue after the show about the subjects authenticity, relevance and voice in a world where many of us pretend to get it.. but realistically.. most of us are still trying to figure it out.
What I didn't like
I think this piece is just great the way it is. It’s also a sort of jumping off point for an ongoing show that features many voice – ‘straight white women trying to woke’ or ‘gay black men trying to woke’ or ‘curious brown them trying to woke’ OR a combination of everything and just say ‘Trying to Woke’ and bring playwrights together for an ensemble piece with many voices, colors, sexual orientations and cultural backgrounds.
My overall impression
A well directed, excellently performed and particularly well written comedy about the trying times we live in and how some dudes just don’t get it.
