Performances were all top-notch, but special note has to be given to John Harnagel who gives a performance that’s both heartbreaking and (literally) poetic. I also appreciated the introduction given at the very start of the play by actor Brennan Murray, who breaks the fourth wall to introduce all of the characters to us before the show starts. It wasn’t exactly necessary, but it set the scene nicely. Finally, while it’s possible the first half of the play could be tightened slightly, the second half is tense, tragic perfection.
What I didn't like
Not so much an improvement as a desire, I’d love to see this show staged in an actual pub.
My overall impression
An excellent show that sheds light on a chapter of recent history that often goes overlooked out here in the States. Go see it if you like gripping character drama, powerful performances and Irish history and legends. Just don’t forget that most Irish songs are sad ones.
