Lucy Gillespie’s writing strikes gold again, giving the actors plenty to work with. Ben Hethcoat does an amazing job as Lee Atwater, cementing himself as a great “tortured visionary” following up his role A Beast/A Burden. The entire cast delivers on all the political figures we’ve come to know and love/hate, the projections round out the story and the setting perfectly, and the simple set makes for easy transitions.
What I didn't like
How did he die? What did his wife think? I want to go research him now, and that’s the point, but I feel like more could have been explained to give an insight into who he was, not just what he did.
My overall impression
Fantastic writing, a talented ensemble, and a fascinating subject combine to make this a great show. This one will stick with you for a while.
