What I liked
I loved the writing. The dialogues made me feel like I was watching a Hollywood Oscar-contender movie and not a Fringe play. I also enjoyed the structure of the scenes. Especially, the choice to start with a glimpse of a young Lee Atwater before he became a significant DC player. Every single scene was strategically placed, and I loved watching the character development of each person. One of my favorite elements was the inclusion of two diametrically opposed female characters. So often women are excluded from the narrative (or play a decorative part) when it comes to historical pieces — which always bugs me. But in SOB, the two female characters and their different relationship and reaction towards Atwater was truly one of my favorite parts. I loved all of their scenes and one scene, especially, gave me chills — because it says a lot about women who stand by the side of men they shouldn’t support. I also liked the final scene (such a great exit line!). And, of course, kudos to the entire cast — the acting was top-notch! Great job all around.
What I didn't like
Can’t think of anything right now.
My overall impression
Such a poignantly written play that goes beyond the personal story of Lee Atwater, and effortlessly sheds a light on the behind-the-scenes (and in front of the camera) of American politics today. Congratulations all around!
