What I liked
I really liked each segment, a lot of unique and innovative sequences. Allegra Masters’ performance particularly stood out to me, as I could watch her be a insane Lifestyle Influencer for hours + hours (while also seeing behind the veil towards the middle). The ending “boxing match” is quite interesting formally, but I won’t ruin what it is.
What I didn't like
There is an element of “workshop” in this performance, no doubt. I think in one more ideation, BOXING YOUR DEMONS could be a show with much bigger production values and contextual tightness – but as it stands a very fun and interesting and interestingly emotional 50 minutes.
My overall impression
A wild, fun, satisfying and surprisingly deep interactive show about the contradictions of life in 2019. While the comedy wrapping paper is thoroughly enjoying, I found myself most drawn to the tender, vulnerable, and serious underbelly of how hard it is to connect with other humans (and ourselves).
