What I liked

Oh God can I even list everything!? The actors were so likable and charming, the guy who played Blake’s friend has the best comedic timing I’ve seen in a while. He knew exactly what little gestures and facial expressions to do to make his character just that much more lovable. Shirley is perfection – I loved her so much and want to see a musical based off of her life. Blake and Olive were so adorable and had great chemistry. And not only did this show have to be funny and sweet, it also had to be touching and heartfelt too! I wasn’t expecting to be tearing up at noon on a Sunday but by God was I in love with those characters by the end of the show. And the way David walked off stage at the end was so heart wrenching, real, and true to what real life is like! I hope everyone gets to see this absolutely delightful musical

What I didn't like

Only thing I’d suggest is having the dialogue at the beginning of the play be about how they think they can make a musical better than the one they’re seeing at the movies. When David said “let’s write a musical” it came out of left-field for me, so I’d say just adding a line like “this movie is terrible, we could write one better than this” would help it seem less out of the blue. Otherwise literally everything was perfection.

My overall impression

WOW! What a treat! I am so so pleased that I got to witness this absolute joy. What a great way to end my Fringe schedule! I laughed, I cried, I felt my heart lurch, I loved this show and am so impressed by Lawrie and the cast’s talent. I wish Lawrie bowed on the stage because she deserves one hell of an applause for what she’s created.
