The songs are well written and performed, especially the duets between the Nick (Joey Hunt) and Lisa (Maeve Osgood). The actress playing “Angel” (Isabel Caxide) delivers a surprising moving solo song in the middle of this wacky comedy. The “Greek chorus” composed of the cast when they are not individual characters was a great idea and handled well. The lead actor who plays Nick is a great singer, and Denise Lyles-Cooke who played both the Ms. Rommel and Medium character has a great stage presence and excellent comedic timing. The last song of the show wraps up the play very well. The direction is well done and captures the wacky spirit of the movie.
What I didn't like
One song that’s in the movie does not appear in the play, but you’d never miss it if you haven’t seen the movie. Also, the Detective Pluto character is played as very odd and creepy, and I didn’t see the purpose of his character here.
My overall impression
A fun romp of a musical! … I’ve seen the HELL’S KITTY movie this play is based on and the play follows it pretty closely – even expands on it a bit. The audience had a great time! Fun to see if you’re a cat lover, a horror movie lover, or a lover of musical theater.
