What I liked
Real musical chops in some of the tunes, with clever turns and progressions; my favorite scene was after the one with the therapist, where he expresses his love for his kitty in a way reminiscent of Ulrich Seidl’s “Animal Love.” Very strong male lead.
What I didn't like
I’d flesh it out with a couple more tunes (subbing one out for “I Like Cats”) and add some grand guignol aspects to plant the work more firmly in horror. But this is a really promising work.
My overall impression
Superfun musical! I once had a cat that was like this one: the most loving cat I ever had, but it scared off my housemates so much that they had to ask me to get it out of their rooms when she was in there, as she wouldn’t allow them to get near her. The tone includes elements of camp, horror, comedy, and real pathos.
