What I liked
Aside from the acting, writing, producing directing, staging, and wardrobe… all of which far exceed the level of a fledgling play at the HFF, the overall vibe of The Lounge Theater with these words pulsing through its warm and inviting walls, was magnificent. It was electric. Though the content is uncomfortable and devastatingly real, the play managed so many moments of pure joy, laughter, and acknowledgement of yep, that’s what life is like. This. Is. Life.
What I didn't like
The ONLY improvement is this play needs to be seen on a BIGGER stage to a BROADER audience! People NEED to feel these characters, across the Globe! Especially America, especially election year, especially those who’s neighbors don’t look like what they see in the mirror. Exceptional work, brava to John Francis O’Brien, the cast, and crew!
My overall impression
This brilliant piece of work was so well executed, I was shocked my seat wasn’t in the mezzanine of a sold out Broadway show. The content is poignant, articulate, touching, and intensely relevant to our current cultural climate. The acting was gut wrenching and raw. So real, I felt like I needed a drink with “Brendan” after the final curtain call. The writer has a voice that needs to be screamed from the mountain tops.
