What I liked
Jenelle Lynn Randall is Eartha. Her performance captured the public Eartha the person we knew as an entertainer who prowled & purred & seduced most of us.
Jenelle’s characterization capture the physical Eartha with all the specificity of a artist who has done their homework & study their subject & has the instrument to not only execute a performance but to channel the spirit of someone who always made an enduring impression.
What I didn't like
What was there worked. Jennelle mentioned it’s a work in progress which in the title the Eartha Kitt Story. Although the choices included in the play were wonderful choices & smartly chosen there’s more to her story. What I wanted to see was more of the private Eartha. A glimpse of behind the mask that she created in her adulthood. The reminisces as a child showed some of the impact of abuse, wanted to see what/who inspired her to be an artist & the moment she knew she could & would be one. What did she really fear. Wouldn’t mind hearing her speak about how her work in ‘Anna Lucasta’ (might be her best performance) developed.
