What I liked

I loved Aisha’s performance of “Give Me Time.” Vocally, this one was right on. And the use of lighting and costumes in this piece specifically was very suited to the tone of the song and added an emotional element that deepened the piece. I could tell Aisha deeply cared about the subject matter. And of course, “Lovin’ You” was a great moment in the show, as well. I thought it was a nice touch to include some audience participation in that one. It was especially sweet the way she handled the super high notes in the song, complimenting the audience for their attempts to sing along!

What I didn't like

I felt like Aisha was trying to tell two stories. Her own, with “Selfie: Making it About Me” and then the other with “A Minnie Riperton Cabaret Revue,” with both stories ending up feeling “half told.” I suggest that Aisha do some work on the writing of these and separate them into two different shows. One where she embodies Minnie Riperton and tells her story, which is obviously very important to Aisha, and another where she dives more deeply into her own story, and possibly adds some of her original music. I’d love to see more of Aisha’s personal journey. I am interested enough in both her journey and Minnie Riperton’s to want to take their stories in separately.

My overall impression

I loved Aisha’s commitment to her journey of self-love and self-actualization. And her willingness to poke a little fun at herself along the way, specifically through the use of her projected images, was very endearing. And Aisha’s vocal range is quite impressive!
