What I liked
I loved the way Tanya shifted between characters with a simple piece of clothing and an accent. I appreciated range of each character we encountered. The simplicity of the set made you truly focus on Tanya and her amazing performance.
What I didn't like
I enjoyed the focus on her life story. She had me crying and howling with laughter from her reenactment of old teachers, or her parents, or interviews. I wanted more people to meet! I didnt want the show to end!
My overall impression
Tanya was a hit. I was extremely captivated by her performance. Each part of her life, each character, was captivating and exciting. This auto-biographical piece told the story of a young girl growing up in Singapore and her deconstruction of the armor she created for herself to fit in. Her alter ego ‘Tan V’ had it all and was able to enjoy the deliciousness of her beautiful self. I loved seeing this seamless Jekyll and Hyde as she unfolded the other characters she encountered in her life. Tanya brought us to tears and made us laugh out loud. This beautiful tale made me feel bold, accepting, and appreciative of how lucky we are to just be ourselves.
