A lot to say here:
1. The writer’s style is refreshing and compelling. It’s like Hitchcock with laughs. Even when satirical, the characters are three dimensional and very real. It’s a dark comedy – both hysterical and tragic.
2. The #MeToo message that underlines the characters and the story is timely. I’m sad to say that almost every women you know has been hit, raped, harassed, treated like dirt, or grew up close to someone else who did. It has been a real crisis in our society forever and I’m glad to see the writer face into it.
3. The pacing and direction leave you holding your breath. The show never stops moving and has some very unexpected moments (#nospoilers).
4. I thought all the actors brought their A game. They make you feel affection, hope, and hate for the characters. One actor played several roles and each was very distinct.
5. Cool poster.
What I didn't like
The hour flew by so quickly. I would watch a longer version on a full stage – or a series based on this place and characters. I wish there was time to know more backstory on the characters. The 60 minute black box may be the birthplace for the Masher but I hope it will outgrow the realities of Fringe soon.
My overall impression
Riveting from start to finish!
