What I liked

Jannica wears her brands on her body, feeling the weight of their multitudes as she navigates the process of being diagnosed with alopecia while following her dream. Her confidence in relating her story is infectious, causing her audience to question what things may truly be undesirable about them. Perhaps we deserve more credit for the things that make us unique, rather than our ability to disappear into roles expected of us.

What I didn't like

I wouldn’t mind seeing it go further in terms of scenic design, beyond a Fringe staging. A central fountain of brilliantly variegated hairpieces, dominating the stage, haunting the actor as she dismantles the meticulously-presented display to stand on a plinth as the singular work of art she is.

My overall impression

A common trope amongst one-person-shows is a friendly presentation of a misunderstood affliction or issue, where our performer takes us on a biographical journey through their unique experience. This can be an exhausting and tedious adventure for many, who forget to engage their audiences with charm and kindness in their public therapy session. (IM)PERFEKT does not fall into this trap, presented with charm and charisma by Jannica Olin. Jannica’s ebullient and effervescent performance relates to us a heartbreaking examination of beauty and self-value in one of the cities most prone to shallowness in the world.
