What I liked

Both Rose and Edward were delightful and had good voices. They made a lovely, believable couple. There was very good energy in the production.

What I didn't like

The play had some elements that did not really work. Edward appearing without his shirt for instance. Edward’s body was not that of a trans man at that time. And the suits Edward had emphasized that, rather than concealing it. Also, for the author, it seemed to me that Edward would have realized much sooner that coming out as trans would be problematic to Rose. And likely, Rose would have taken longer than one night to realize that she did want to be be with Edward. Her final and quick decision would have made more sense if her major reason for attraction to Edward, his treating her respectfully and equally and not overriding her personhood, had been emphasized after the revelation the Edward was trans. And if her wish for children and normalcy, which she had not mentioned before, had not been highlighted there as the major reasons for her hesitancy. She really DID want a different relationship and realizing that explicitly would have helped the outcome to seem more consistently driven by the rest of the play.

My overall impression

Exploring relatively daring material. Moved along well. Good cast. Enjoyable to see.
