I attended the preview night performance of "My Trans Wife"! It is a compelling auto-biographical "story form" presentation of the life and relationship of a married couple, Mimi and Mara, who are married in real life. You get the picture from the title...two women, one is trans and the other is not. You think you've got it rough with your spotty cell phone service, computer problems, and bad LA traffic!? Try being in the shoes of these two women! We all should be listening to and learning from these kinds of real life stories. Despite difficulties and obstacles, which they continue to face, this is a real love story and that's what shines through. There are some cute little directorial things and I won't ruin your fun by disclosing... full review

A thoroughly entertaining and enlightening show that sheds light on the journey of two people in love with each other, one of whom happens to be Trans. A warmly told story of much triumph, as well as some heartbreak and sadness. A revelation, and somewhat of a primer, on Gender dysphoria. Highly recommended, not only for those expanding their knowledge and acceptance of those who are Trans, but for it's sheer entertainment value. ... full review

I was very impressed with this show. To put your own life stories out there for everyone to see takes a lot of guts. Their story has emotional content but also a lot of humor - and some terrific harmonica playing too. Mara and Mimi are very personable and I came away feeling less like I had seen a theatrical performance than I had just met new friends and I was lucky enough to have them share the story of their interesting lives with me. Watching this show was a very positive and uplifting experience. ... full review

This would, for anyone, be a difficult performance to put on stage for all the world to see. It was an intensely personal look into what few of us experience -- a rare world to be invited as a guest and a visit that will make every one of us come out better for having spent the time. ... full review

In staging this piece, one could easily drift into protest or the theater of activism. I don't disagree with these as artistic choices, but what I find so heartwarming and appealing about this piece is that it is performed as simple fact - as documentary theater - without falling into justifying itself. This is a love story between two people who clearly love each other very much. As with all love stories, it has one or two unusual quirks, but the familiarity of kindness and comfort fills my heart, no matter how seemingly unfamiliar the twists and turns along the way.... full review

I’m constantly learning new things by seeing and hearing what people have to deal with from society as a whole for being who they are. This show was another example of that. This couple is telling and showing the audience what it is like being in a relationship such as theirs-from family drama to society expectations and beyond. It’s one of those stories to you find yourself thinking “oh, I never thought of that”-as in difficulties transgender individuals go through that non-transgender individuals never think twice about. The two women are incredible, and lovely to chat with as well 🙂... full review
