I love it when anyone dares to step onto the stage to share a story, especially when they don’t have years of experience doing it or a feeling of entitlement about the work.
What I didn't like
It became a little obvious over time that someone guided Bob to take a drink of water whenever he needed to check his ‘set list’ [if you will] to get on track. Also close to the end it feels a little bit like an advertisement for Bob’s festivals and work more it does an intimate time spent with another human being.
My overall impression
Kudos to Bob for fulfilling his dream of doing his own solo show at the Fringe. The man has obviously seen many over the festival’s ten years and he speaks about his interest in them during his performance, noting how brave it seems to take the stage for 60 minutes alone. He has a lot of stories to share, and in many instances, some of the more interesting ones are shelved for ‘maybe another time’. It’s hard not to wish that Bob had taken one more step out on that theatrical ledge and been willing to get a bit more personal with us in a couple of moments.
