Palmares Play is an absolute masterpiece that left me feeling uplifted and inspired. The Bush Captain opened my heart with his cry, "...Palmares did not come!" It resonated deeply, capturing the universal experience of delay, discord, and detachment from the source of our freedom. Palmares was an exciting production exploring the history of slavery, freedom, and war in 17th century Brazil. The play incorporated capoeira along with acting and storytelling to tell the tale of King Ganga Zumba and his greatest general, Zumbi. The story was engaging, moving, and well-executed. The display of capoeira was weaved beautifully into the production and incorporated kicks, cartwheels, flips, and roll. The entire experience kept me engaged and invested in the story.
