Shanara’s poetry hits hard in your heart and gut. She pulls no punches, and uses so much raw power and energy to hold people accountable for their prejudices. You can tell she’s in her element when she starts a verse. It’s truly electric.
What I didn't like
The transitions between characters, moments, and sections could be clearer and hit harder. At times, I didn’t know exactly who was speaking or why things were happening. This was also a preview and I feel this is true of most first shows – everyone needs to breathe and slow down. We’re here for you, it’s ok to take your time.
My overall impression
Shanara is a poignant poet and her story is necessary. She tackles a lot in just one hour and it all hits you like a truck. Her poetry and flow were the highlight of the show.
