What I liked
Ashley is a capital-A “Actress”, and is perfectly suited for the roles, demonstrating a range from dignified and directive to saucy and salacious. Sean Harris creatively guides the show, which includes characters connecting directly to the audience in surprising and fun ways. I am grateful to the team for bringing this story to life, and hope that many more people get the opportunity to learn more about these historical women who helped drive us forward, and who sadly faced challenges that are still relevant today.
What I didn't like
I look forward to the show finding even more ways to compel us and make us laugh as the show develops!
My overall impression
I’m shocked I hadn’t heard of Victoria Woodhull before— but if there was ever a time to share her story, it is NOW. If you enjoy watching a skilled performer play strong women from history (and one modern one!) with humour and heart, AND you want to learn something new, this is the show. It’s a tight show, just under and hour, and Theo Salter’s script Ashley Ford’s performance, and Sean Harris’s direction will keep you engaged from start to finish.
