What I didn't like
I cannot review the entire show, because I ended up walking out after about 30 minutes. I simply could not tolerate the poisonously high decibels being blasted into that tiny space. I don’t know why the producers made this choice. Perhaps to drown out the equally obnoxiously loud music in the next room? Levels were so high I spent 80% of the time I was in the house with my fingers stuffed into my ears (any time someone was singing, or music was playing – it’s a musical- and it was STILL too loud.
I was predisposed to like this show. I would still love to see it in a better venue, with REASONABLE amplification.
I won’t be seeing any more shows at Three Clubs. The room had so many chairs stuffed into it that I suspect a full house would be in violation of the venue’s Fire Dept. permit. Emergency exit would be difficult and fraught with potential for injuries.
My overall impression
Good songwriting, arranging, but too loud to be enjoyable. If you’re going to go, bring ear plugs. You’ll still be able to experience the singing and songwriting without risking your hearing.
