What I liked

The cast brings the fire in this production. Whether it’s singing or storytelling, the pace never flags and the energy never wanes. Graham Skipper and Jennifer DeRosa are perfect as Dr. Franken(berry) and Mama; I never wanted them to leave the stage! Bryan Krasner is tops as Frank, pulling double-duty as the Monster here and in Dracula’s Taste Test next door, and winning over the audience with his wild physicality, terrifying mugging, and velvet pipes. Everyone is on point with character, movement, vocals and comic timing which is a big plus with a script that touches on so many cultural points (both past and present) so quickly. The costuming was excellent and the song choices are hilarious.

What I didn't like

This show might be even better in a more intimate setting where the rush of the production would be more impactful. The size of the Main Stage at the Broadwater is hard to overcome with a bare stage and the high ceiling swallows voices. I always advocate for shows with singing to use microphones and that’s one of the only things I could suggest to improve the show. I would have loved to see another number with Mama and Dr. Franken(berry) and more Igor would be welcome in a future production.

My overall impression

A fun and intelligent mash-up of classic literature with Fools’ spicy humor sprinkled throughout! A brilliant cast whips through the smart script and songs with fearless energy. Fun for all with silly surprises in every chapter.
