At certain points I felt like I was watching Charlton Heston time travel to another galaxy. The choreography was perfect; the performances were startling. You should definitely check this out!... full review

Maybe I've led a charmed life, but nothing like Hercules, slaying monsters since a babe in the crib. A presentation I've never experienced before, Hercules Insane delivered fighting, interpretive dance, poetry, life and death, gods and monsters, and even SAD HERCULES! I couldn't look away, and I don't think anyone else has, either. Oh, and the director's introduction was worth the ticket alone.... full review

Like taking a glance at an alien culture, this is a perfectly rendered piece of ancient Roman theatre. I haven't ever seen quite this mix of heightened-language storytelling and dance with the eyes of these ancient characters peering out through the stylized masks. See how much of Shakespeare was actually pulled from these words, the most obvious being passages that wound up in Macbeth. I'm not even making a ton of sense because I'm still letting this thing sink in. See it. Director/translator Christopher Johnson's quick introduction to the play is worth the price of admission. See it tonight while you still can. ... full review

I can but applaud a resurgence of interest in the classics, especially those we don't see that often, as in this case Seneca's Hercules Insane. This production does something even more startling that the revival of an Ancient Roman tragedy (we more often see people do the Greeks--possibly in hopes of seeing ourselves as in a Golden Age) in a pretty close approximation of how it was originally staged! Actors wore masks, spoke in meter, permeated stylized movements in every moment, and never shied from stuff some modern audiences might call obscene (as it for example showing erect phalluses...phalli?). It could have ended up almost farcical, very A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Instead it comes across as what Game of Thrones... full review

A "classic" in every sense. Someone nobly took it upon themselves to recreate how dramas were performed waaaaay back when.... full review

A new translation of a Roman tragedy, this show offers some cool visuals and a mix of dance, violence, heroics, masks and blood. I found it a little hard to relate to the story of Hercules and the trials of his family as he returns from the underworld, but by the end, I was moved by the final reveal of what lies ahead for the hero and his family.... full review
