What I liked

The Butoh movement and I even believe the work could live here entirely. I liked that this Medea was new and full of originality that you can’t help that you understand her pain and sympathize.

My overall impression

This is the work. To take Euripides age old classic and remind us that the story of Medea will never die. It lives because Yokko gave her body, gave her heart all to the work. To hear Medea speak from Yokko’s mouth took me to a space I did not expect. I believed she was an outsider, onstage alone. I saw her torment and love within the choreography that the monologue was an extra revelation. The power of stillness is real and hard to manifest onstage with poignancy. Yokko gives us a masterclass on its power and as it reaches right down into your solar plexus and sits there. The piece really comes alive for me in the revelation of seeing Medea at her most true for the journey from a young girl in love to now is not pretty. Wonderful work and I hope it is extended!
