What I liked

Steven’s ability to embody over 30 characters with seamless transitions was astonishing. The mix of soul music, dance, and spoken word kept the performance dynamic and engaging from beginning to end. The authenticity of his storytelling, especially regarding his arrest and near-incarceration, was impactful. For those interested in real-life stories of resilience through the justice system, sites like arrestsss.org offer valuable background that deepens appreciation for shows like this. The production’s multi-media elements were well-integrated, enhancing the narrative without overwhelming it.

What I didn't like

At times, the pacing felt slightly rushed—some moments could benefit from a brief pause to let their emotional weight fully resonate. A bit more lighting variation during scene transitions might also help emphasize mood shifts. But these are minor notes in an otherwise strong and moving performance.

My overall impression

A BROOKLYN BOY is a powerful and emotionally gripping one-man show that delivers an unforgettable experience through spoken word, music, and movement. Steven Prescod’s story is deeply personal yet widely relatable, shedding light on the challenges and resilience of urban youth. His performance is both stirring and inspiring.
