What I liked

I liked that each character represented something different out in the real world, specifically Los Angeles. I liked the juxtaposition of each couple. I thought the Instagram character was very relevant and the actress’s performance was very natural and subtle. I think the fitness character’s expressions and silences were spot on as reactions to his counterpart. I loved the purity in the performance of the neurotic character. I loved the yoga instructor. Her character was very stereotypical and I enjoyed that it was such an exaggerated but also realistic portrayal of people I believe are out there in LA. The hipster character’s pronunciation of Italian words was hilarious. I loved how much it made my skin crawl due to his portrayal of the absurdity of his character.

What I didn't like

I think lighting was an issue due to the size and resources of the venue. It didn’t seem to be a true spotlight. I think the actors would have benefitted from an elevated stage. I think it was too small of a venue for the waiter’s character to have his soliloquies where he directs his lines to the audience. I enjoyed them but I think it would have been more appropriate for a larger stage. I think the person working at the venue could relax a bit. Her energy distracted from how much I enjoyed the show.

My overall impression

I thought it was great. It was well casted. The writing was pretty impressive and laugh out loud funny. I really felt the comedic energy and natural ability of each performer on stage. I think the length of it was perfect. I enjoyed each character’s representation of what real life first dates can feel like. This was a very enjoyable experience.
