What I liked

The cast is excellent. Chloe Dworkin is especially perfect as the narcissistic oldest sister Olga. Fabianne Meyer’s opportunistic Masha delightfully drives the story forward. Nikita Chaudhry deliciously captures Irina’s innocent over-indulgence. I also loved Janai Humphrey as the ignorantly inappropriate Natasha and Lauren White as the entrepreneur brother Andre. You don’t need to brush up on your Chekhov to enjoy the show, but if you know The Three Sisters you will find satisfaction in how the Kardashian-like family version reflects on the themes of the Russian play. Olga and Masha’s disinterested commentary on the brush fires while lazily barely taking interest in their children in the pool was the perfect comment on how the Kardashians are like the Russian sisters, observing yet not caring about their own doomed existence.

What I didn't like

The sight lines in the McCadden theater made it difficult to see certain scenes when there was action on the floor, from lounging by the pool to a videotaped sex scene, but otherwise this show was flawless. I loved it!

My overall impression

Chekhov’s THE THREE SISTERS as told by a TV family similar to the Kardashians is both witty satire and a heartfelt, yet sad, glimpse in to the vapid state of American culture. Today we look at Chekhov’s writing as classic and remote from us, but Chekhov was writing popular material current for his times. KEEPING UP WITH THE PROZOROVS has the double advantage of commenting on both Chekhov and reality television while giving us a little to think about, besides. This production is a witty, well-produced and excellently crafted mash-up of the Russian Playwright and E! Television.
