Great Acting, solid staging, superb writing—-and an unusual insight into two far-apart periods of history!
What I didn't like
What was The Producer doing onstage in a silent cameo before the play itself started? Just asking!
My overall impression
No wonder this triumphed in Great Britain! Solo shows are common, but telling in tandem the stories of two women living almost two centuries apart isn’t. ECHOES is too tepid a title to sell this perfect Fringe vehicle: two actresses who spend 50 minutes telling analagous stories of abuse at the hands of husbands corrupted by their cultures, building compellingly to riveting, violent climaxes! Not the original Edinburgh cast, but two talented LA locals, well-directed, who command the stage—-and our attention. If you’re not afraid to learn some pieces of unjustly buried history, solidly crafted to this theatrical template, I think you’ll be as captured as I was!
