What I liked
The cast were clearly incredibly talented. The show had some very engaging moments. The song between Tex, bobby and Linda was particularly heartfelt and really was a vital moment of showing how the family made itself feel like a home for the lost souls who came to it. Tex, Linda and Squeaky were especially well cast. The groups songs were very strong both thematically and from a performance standpoint. The show did a great job at the infighting and manipulation used to control the family.
What I didn't like
The pacing and development of the growing threat to Linda through out comes on very strong and very quickly. It begs the question of where is the love that she was seeking, and one wonders why she didn’t immediately run from these nut jobs before being shown fairly late in the show.
the show has some wonderful songs but at only an hour and a half it crams them in and doesn’t give us time to sit with the characters before stopping all of the action for another musical soliloquy.
The show feels incomplete. it ends at what has the weight of an act break. I would love to see the story of how it falls apart after the murders.
My overall impression
This show has a lot of potential but had a long way to go. The cast were wonderful and talented and I hope that this script continues to develop. In it’s current form its a great deal of unrealized potential.
