What I liked

I loved the concept and story. I read the synopsis before seeing the show and thought I’d know the perspectives of the characters right away, but Kerri’s situation is more complex than you’d first think and she provides very interesting and thought-provoking arguments to her friend Viv throughout the play. Kerri’s whole conflict really resonated with me because it’s so hard sometimes, especially in entertainment, to balance fighting for your career and dream job and staying true to your morals.

What I didn't like

I would’ve maybe liked to see more of Kerri and Viv’s friendship and relationship at the beginning because by the climax of the play things are very heated between the two, and it would’ve been interesting to me if I was more invested in their friendship while they were dealing with Kerri’s conflict. Perhaps that’s a thought to consider if this becomes a longer full length production! That’s really my only minor thought, it’s a really great show!

My overall impression

Skin Jobs is a very smart and thoughtful play. It was succinct and the perfect length to get it’s point across and leave the audience wanting to continue the conversation after the show. The story is very current and relatable, especially for those of us in the industry. But anyone, industry working or not, will be invested in this show because it digs into the current big issues in entertainment that everyone sees such as racism and whitewashing in big tentpole films that dominate the box office and movie industry year round.
