What I liked
Trained actors who know how to handle text, a diverse cast, and the play itself. So often all we hear about is the war, every war, and the men who fought in it. The deeds they do- heroic or not. This piece focuses on the women left behind. It’s extremely poignant and timeless.
What I didn't like
I honestly can’t think of anything. I could try just for the sake of writing something but I don’t think it’s necessary. It’s a solid production.
My overall impression
Go! Go see this production. Under the keen direction of Olivia Buntaine, this beautiful ensemble is wrenchingly heartbreaking. They did such a good job making me forget that this is classical text and got right to the emotional core of the play. The production design embraced everything I love about theater- symbolism and functionality. Nothing is wasted, everything is used. The movement that was utilized throughout the piece added to it, and did not take me out of the world of the play.
Extra big shout out to Taylor Jackson Ross as Hecuba. She takes a very difficult role and makes her so human, so understandable and relatable. We take this journey with her. Ross is formidable and a force on stage.
Hats off to Rog Angell for producing such a stellar piece. This is definitely a play of our age as women all over the world are still bought and sold.
