What I liked

Refreshingly unstrung and flailing, this play brought me to almost ceaseless unexpected laughter. I’m not sure if it was the slapstick madness coming out of nowhere with a costumed leprechaun providing a stunt for why the vividly unhinged character went mad—or, the utterly nontraditional structure of the play, but it rendered charming and fun a very serious subject.

What I didn't like

It was all of a piece. To pull it apart, the whole thing would dissolve. It’s the incongruity and nuttiness that makes it work.

My overall impression

Usurping satiric or absurdist tropes GOODBYE CHARLES hits gonzo comedic payoffs dissecting the terror of marital commitment by diving into a confessional spray of crazy that zeroes in on a central character, indeed gone crazy, trying to make sense of this fear.
