Her weakness in telling the story has turned this show from great to excellent.
My overall impression
If you’re already a fan of the burlesque scene, you’d have liked seeing Vixen perform. Otherwise, I thought the five bits she performed were best suited for a short Fringe Festival show, rather than being stretched out to a full 75-minute one-act with filler gasps, pauses, and chuckles (that got even longer because it started late, was being filmed for a television special, stopped for technical difficulties near the end, and then asked the audience to produce B-roll footage of applause and cheers and laughs) mapquest directions. Don’t get me wrong: I appreciate the messages of self-confidence, self-determination, body positivity, humor, inclusivity, craft dedication, and so on. However, all of that content could have been told in a much shorter (more tightly/smartly edited) production that didn’t feel like such a waste of time.
