June 16, 2018What I liked
Loved:
- the distinct characterizations that was both written and performed.
- energy/committment of the the flying monkey – wisely used entire stage/room.
- the comedic timing/characterization of Glinda – what a STAR
- the CLASSICAL performance of the Cowardly Lion – genius
- the two wicked witches had FUN with their roles, which allowed me to have fun with them – those two are a show within a show.
- projection on the screen, make up, costumes – huge thumbs up
What I didn't like
- i was put off by the voice over of the wizard, while Dorthy stood there with physical responses. it took away from the great production value. Plus, I came to see a live performance with actors. I think an actor could have done a better job. Made me feel like the actor didn’t show, and it was a last minute choice.
- actors in beginning should play more downstage. While upstage, they were drowned out by the overhead screen projection on their faces, which also created shadows on projection screen.
- actors sometimes lost character entering and exiting when lights were not on them. made us lose the fantasy of it.
My overall impression
A well thought out and produced show that is definitely enjoyable!
