What I liked

Great staging and the performances carried the piece. It was inspiring to see these real life characters brought to life with such depth and attention to detail. The actors where in the moment, listening to each other and living thier lives with a delicate stage presence. Asia Lynn Pitts portail off Effa was well judged and beautiful to watch. I had no idea such an interesting woman did what she did until I read up about her. I would have liked to have seen more about Effa and her past on the stage that night. How she managed to get to this position in life and her thoughts and feelings about herself and other people at such a complicated point in USA history. Very enjoyed the performance of Twon Pope, who portrayed Jackie, such a fascinating character also.

What I didn't like

Period pieces bassed of real characters are so interesting because one can learn something new about history. I would have enjoyed a little more from this one. As someone who knows hardly anything about the sport I often felt lost in some of the dialogue. It was more of a slice of life then a highly dramatic piece. I was so curious to learn more about the characters I went home and did some more reading. Thank you for the food for thought.

My overall impression

Very interesting piece and fascinating subject matter. A great piece to bring to the stage.
