I was greatly moved by the message in this beautifully written and executed solo show. I loved the central character, the funny, witty, and positive homeless woman who is a friend to all she comes in contact with. Her attitude is amazing even though she's on the streets. When I left the play, my eyes were even more open to the large number of homeless people we have in our city of LA. Kathryn's play definitely educates us about this serious issue! ...

A Mile in My Shoes has left me with mixed feelings. Kathryn Taylor Smith is a highly skilled performer and the content/message of this play is gorgeous. Through monologues, dance and visual projections Smith introduces the audience to a number of different homeless people and the people they encounter - both those who help make their lives better, and those who wish they would just go away. It is clear that Smith has spent a lot of time with homeless people and has great compassion for them. For this alone, I would say go and check out the show.

The actor absolutely lights up the stage - so diverse in her characterizations. You can’t take your eyes off of her!
She dives deeply into the emotions of each character and tugs on the heartstrings of the audience. The intimate space broadens the emotional intensity. She seamlessly transitions between characters, taking the time to embody each one through unique physicalizations. And the dialogue is riveting - pure poetry. ...

This one person show kept me interested the whole time. Actress Kathryn Taylor-Smith brought to life back stories of those experiencing homelessness, a subject that is greatly affecting our society. Hopefully after seeing this show one has more empathy towards those living on our streets, instead of annoyance at how your neighborhoods are being affected. The humanity behind the masses is spotlighted. I think we could all use a more empathetic view. The timing is spot on for this show and it's well worth seeing. ...

Honest. Fearless. Funny. Heart-warming.
I am a theater snob, I can only enjoy well written and beautifully performed pieces on stage, and this show did not disappoint! I felt like I was back in New York watching greats like Anna Deavere Smith, Phylicia Rashad, or S. Epatha Merkerson. This was well developed, rehearsed, and executed with great courage, wisdom, and pride. The multifaceted-characters were real and honest. And the actress was both vulnerable and strong when needed. I left feeling like I robbed them of a higher ticket price!...

What a stunning array of characters Kathryn Smith portrays in her current solo Fringe Festival show at The Lounge Theater. A must see in my opinion. The subject of homelessness in LA and countless other US cities is such a hot button issue at present. Kathryn offers important social comment while encountering several characters who inhabit her life on the streets. Kathryn is realistic, poignant, funny, and revelatory in her observations. Two more perfs!!! Catch it if you can, you'll love it!!!...
