Holly is a waitress on the night shift at Canter’s Deli on Fairfax, as she has been for the last twenty two years. Her days and nights have been defined by her family, her job, an addiction to crossword puzzles, and a deep love for agony aunt advice columns. She likes to keep things simple.
Her daughter Marine has asked Holly to write down all her recipes, memories and reasons for having moved to the City of Angels, so that Marine can take them across the sea with her, as she is moving to Europe. Thus Holly, with the help of her regulars and the sea of vagabonds LA drags across it’s beleaguered streets to Canter’s in the dead of night. will have to learn to write her own story. How do you go about telling your child the story of how you were someone else? Did you ever really change, or just bury the old bits of yourself in the new? Over many bowls of Matzah Ball Soup and endless rugalach, Holly will figure out her story, and tell it to all of us in her own time.
