My Swedish Roots are Showing is a solo show by Sandy Seufert that weaves storytelling, images and live performance of Swedish folk music on the fiddle. This one-hour show is the story of Sandy’s journey to explore her Swedish ancestry through music, starting with her early identification of her 50% of Swedishness to becoming a well-regarded Swedish folk fiddler in her own right, serving as a local a tradition-bearer in a fast disappearing cultural landscape. After many years of playing this music, Sandy wrote her first fiddle tune in 2015. This tune started a process that ultimately sent Sandy on her first trip to Sweden in the summer of 2016. On that trip, Sandy played music with fiddling icons on a farm porch in Dalarna and then performed her waltz for dancers a barn in the midnight sun. Sandy came back from Sweden feeling both connected to her ancestors and emboldened to carry the torch to share and preserve this special cultural tradition.
