James Royce has the energy of a man in his 20s. How does he do that? His facial expressions are delightfully charming. The show makes you feel like you are 10 years old at Mime School. Nothing mind blowing here, but a good way to kill a half hour. ...

All and all, a fun half hour where you can marvel at a man so in control of his actions and also guffaw at some surprisingly subversive humor....

I don't have a lot of experience with mimes, but James Direct put on a good show. It was very interactive, and some of the pieces were hilarious. It takes a lot for a person to put out as much energy as James does for the entire show....

So much fun and surprises! James is so talented. I saw a short version so the full show was great fun.
If you need to escape this dreary world look up James Direct!...

Direct’s show was a mix of that. The tropes were there, and served more to demonstrate his skill as a mime than to be particularly entertaining. But there were wonderfully absurd sketches that worked quite well. The Wedding sequence with the bells was wonderful, as was the Fish Matador sequence. Bringing in the absurdity, the unexpected, the reactions worked well. Potentially, adding some more improvisation could work too. Having the audience write situations that he then had to improvise in mime could lead to the unexpected. His show was certainly entertaining, and he was prepared and knew his material and how to get his point across without words. Full writeup at https://cahighways.org/wordpress/?p=14457...
