My overall impression

Wonderfully Weird! Original! A unique Fringe show that you can’t miss!

A Beast/ A Burden creatively unravels the life of performance artist Chris Burden. I’d describe the tone as a quirky-dark-dramatic-comedy.

The opening of the show immediately swept me in for the journey and the ending left me wanting more and not knowing if it was truly over. This posed the big question-does art truly ever end or just pause at an interesting place? This was one of my favorite parts of the play because this left our audience involved and wanting more. I immediately wanted to go home and google more about the life of Chris Burden.

The actor playing Chris Burden, Ben Hethcoat, was exceptional and subtle at portraying all of Burdens quirks. Though his performance, you could one second feel something profound and then quickly laugh at the insanity of what he was doing or saying next.

The whole cast was very strong and really made for an entertaining experience.

The play also uses multimedia very effectively. Sometimes I get taken out of plays when they are throwing up random videos to try and force feed me a feeling but that was not the case with this play. It was smart, creative and really added to the experience.

To The Writer and Director, Billy Ray Brewton, Bravo! You have created a very entertaining and thought provoking play. I will definitely recommend to all Fringe Viewers and would love to see this play continue to have a huge amount of success.
