What I liked

Misty uses a five step concept of developing black identity as the primary structure for telling the story. With some solo performance shows that I have seen, the story can seem sporadic and occasionally hard to follow. But with the five steps, I never felt lost and always felt like I was in the story with Misty. She ties in funny and tragic moments of her life with each step to create a consistent story that flows with ease.

What I didn't like

Some lighting cues seemed late, but they did not detract from the performance. Overall, great show!

My overall impression

Misty experiences every emotion in this show, and with her engaging and charming performance, the audience does the same. I laughed, cried, felt the breath knocked out of me, and left the theatre feeling educated. Go see this show and learn about an amazing woman’s life and her struggles in finding identity.
